Howes Percival and baby charity ADAPT conquer Peaks
Lawyers from the Leicester office of Howes Percival and supporters from the Leicestershire neo-natal baby charity ADAPT together conquered the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, raising £5,000 for ADAPT.
A majority of the nine staff from Howes Percival and 16 ADAPT workers and volunteers completed the challenging 25 mile walk to the top of three Yorkshire peaks within 12 hours on June 19 to raise money for the premature and poorly baby charity.
Those taking part from Howes Percival include Michael Briggs, Jenna Bruce, Daryl Lant, Satnam Chayra, Karolina Zuk, Natalie Howes, Dipti Patel, John Herd and Mark Oldershaw. From ADAPT the walkers include Lindsay Rajczyk, Karen Sullivan, Maureen Savage and Sue Williams.
Michael Briggs, from Howes Percival, said: “It was a gruelling day. We started just after 7am and tackled the peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.”
The fastest time one the teams achieved was nine hours and 13 minutes. Michael Briggs, who was in that team, said: “It was very hard work and all the teams showed a lot of sheer determination. Getting to the end was an excellent moment. There were plenty of tired legs at the end but we were all delighted to have raised money for ADAPT which will be put to very good use.”
ADAPT is the Howes Percival Leicester office’s chosen charity to support during 2010. In May Howes Percival organised a fashion show at the Tigers with the help of John Lewis, which raised about £1,000 for ADAPT.
The charity was set up in 1995 by Rob and Fiona Morris, following the premature birth of their son Harry who spent nine long months on the neonatal units before being allowed home. ADAPT offers help and a support network to parents of babies who require neo-natal special are.
Sue Williams, ADAPT’s Development Co-ordinator, said: “That was physically the hardest thing I’ve ever done. They are called peaks but they felt like mountains. It was very challenging, to say the least, and next year we are going to do a sponsored walk along canals. But, seriously, it was a fantastic experience and we are very grateful to Howes Percival for walking with us and raising money for ADAPT’s work.”
Readers can still sponsor the walkers and help ADAPT, donate online at http://www.justgiving.co.uk/prembabies or by posting donations to ADAPT, 5 Hangmans Lane, Hinckley, LE10 1SU.
